NERC provides critical and substantive support to state agencies by providing tools and hands-on support that impact source reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, environmentally preferable purchasing, recycling market development, and the reduction of the toxicity of the solid waste stream. As an independent non-profit organization that represents more than 20 percent of the national population, NERC emphasizes regional collaboration and multi-stakeholder dialogue to affect change and influence policy.
