As you know, looking for reuse opportunities is a great strategy to avoid climate change impacts, save money, and avoid the creation of solid waste. We are fortunate that there are several reuse networks in the Northeast that offer such opportunities. NERC has developed this list as an informational service to make it easy to identify and access these networks. We hope that you'll take advantage of them.
A Note on What is NOT Listed
- Residential swap shops at recycling centers and transfer stations, and community-based online swap shops are not included. Examples of online community reuse opportunities are Craigslist and Freecycle. And, more recently apps such as Let it Go have added to the reuse toolbox.
- Food Banks are also not included. Look online for your community or region to identify a Food Bank that services your area.
- Store fronts, such as Salvation Army or Goodwill Industries, and textile drop-off box companies are not listed.

Medical Supplies 
Afya Foundation partners with a network of donor hospitals, health organizations, corporations, and individual households for the collection of medical supplies. This medical supply system is tailored to the needs of its donation institutions—foreign health care centers and communities in need.
American Medical Resources Foundation (AMRF) donates used, but functional medical equipment to hospitals serving the poor worldwide.
AmeriCares is a non-profit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization, which provides immediate response to emergency medical needs and supports long-term healthcare programs for people around the world, irrespective of race, creed, or political persuasion. AmeriCares solicits donations of medicines, medical supplies and other relief materials from U.S. and international manufacturers, and delivers them quickly and efficiently to indigenous healthcare and welfare professionals in 137 countries around the world.
getATstuff is the website for the Assistive Technology Exchange in New England and New 
York, whose mission is to put AT equipment that is not currently being used into the hands of someone who can benefit from it. The exchange is a free "classified ad" designed to help people buy, sell, or give away equipment.
Global Crisis Interventions is an emergency and Disaster Relief Organization supporting 
charitable activities worldwide. GCI provides to the needy on daily basis. We focus our response on assisting victims of disaster, rebuilding disaster struck Medical Centers and Clinics in remote areas/developing countries affected by any kind of disaster worldwide. Our goal is to reduce children mortality rate, health promotion, disease prevention through health education, training, disaster relief and mitigation. By giving away your Surplus Medical Supplies & Equipment, and individual cash, GCI will continue to provide assistance to the victims in countries hit by disaster. There is a focus on New York City.
Global Links is a Pittsburgh-based medical relief and development organization dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship and improving health in resource-poor communities, primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean. InterVol is a Rochester, NY community based non-profit organization dedicated to recovery and redistribution of medical supplies and equipment; to bridging local hospitals and medical professionals with other countries and care-giving organizations in areas of need; and to providing international educational support.

Connecticut Surplus Property Program The Department of Administrative Services Surplus Unit provides state agencies, municipalities, approved non-profit organizations and the bidding public with state surplus government property.
State of Delaware Surplus Property Program State agencies, school districts, and volunteer fire companies are eligible to receive state property during a two week period prior to advertisement to the public.
Maine Materials Exchange (M2X) (online)
Maine Surplus Property Division The Surplus Property Division provides various mechanisms for the disposition of state surplus materials and equipment that are no longer needed by the state department that purchased them. This includes daily sales, property offered for bid, public sales, and public auctions. In addition, federal surplus property is obtained for donation to qualifying state, public, or non-profit organizations throughout Maine.
Maryland Surplus Property Program The Department of General Services (DGS) sells Maryland's surplus assets through an online auction. This is much more convenient, green and cost saving to their customers. Current assets available can be viewed at: www.govdeals.com/mdgs
Registration is not necessary to browse the site; however, you must register with www.GovDeals.com before participating in actual bidding.
Massachusetts Surplus Property Program Surplus property includes, but is not limited to, office equipment and furniture, clothing, vehicles, and building materials that exceed departmental need. New York WasteMatch is a free 'waste' brokerage service for NYC businesses.
Pennsylvania Surplus Property Program When a state agency has an item it no longer requires, that item is first offered to other state agencies. By transferring property from one agency to another, the Commonwealth is able to save taxpayer dollars through the reuse of valuable property. When an item is no longer required by any state agency, it is declared surplus and offered for sale in a variety of venues.
Reuse Marketplace is a free network to find, sell, trade, or give away reusable and surplus items that would otherwise be disposed as trash. Businesses, institutions, governments, and non-profit organizations are allowed to post available items. Anyone can browse and access the posted items. The Marketplace includes more than 30 categories of items ranging from agricultural to textiles, as well as more than 60 related subcategories.
SWIX Waste Xchange is a free service designed to help businesses, industries and other organizations find markets for materials they have traditionally discarded. Registered users can post both wanted and available listings, similar to a classified ad section. Businesses, industries, and other organizations can list their available materials by type, quantity, frequency of availability, geographic location, and date listed.

Connecticut
Ecoworks is a creative reuse center. It sells low-cost art supplies to support teachers, artists and others seeking to be more creative and artistic. It is based in New Haven, Connecticut and is open to the public.
Habitat for Humanity Habitat's ReStore resale outlets sell reusable and surplus building materials to the public. While every ReStore outlet is a little 
different, most focus on home improvement goods like furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances. ReStore resale outlets accept donated goods which are sold to the general public at a fraction of the retail price. The proceeds help local Habitat affiliates fund the construction of Habitat homes within their communities.
New England Reuse was founded with the sole purpose of finding a use for building waste and reclaiming old New England one board at a time. It provides an end to the means of deconstruction; a process of demolition to salvage materials. It uses these materials, salvaged from a deconstruction site such as an old home or barn, to create small buildings or new homes.
The lumber and other assorted materials from a deconstruction (including appliances) are also for sale from the warehouse in North Haven, Connecticut.
The ReCONNstruction Center accepts donations of unwanted, but perfectly usable building materials and fixtures. It then offers them for sale to the general public. It is based in Newington, CT.
Delaware

Maine Building Materials Exchange has a store in Lisbon, Maine. Anyone may donate materials to the Building Materials Exchange: individuals, contractors, lumberyards manufacturers, corporations, and anyone can shop at the store.
Ruth's Reusable Resources 
is a non-profit resource center (in the Bessy School in Scarborough, Maine) for schools in Southern Maine.
Maryland
Community Forklift accepts donations of surplus, gently-used, and salvaged home improvement supplies. Visit the warehouse in Bladensburg, Maryland to hunt for treasure! They have 40,000 square feet of modern and vintage building materials, tools, hardware, lighting, plumbing fixtures & appliances, as well as architectural salvage, vintage furniture, and antiques.

The Loading Dock is a building materials reuse facility based in Baltimore, Maryland, offers great deals and interesting finds to people who need inexpensive building materials and are interested in keeping materials out of the waste stream.
The REuse Center is a non-profit building materials exchange. New & used building supplies are collected, sorted and redistributed. National, local & regional businesses save taxes, transportation fees and dumping fees by donating their supplies. Community groups; religions, day care, Lions, Christmas for Others, Habitat for Humanity, etc. Individual families pay a handling fee for materials at approx. 25% of retail. The Center is located in Hancock, Maryland.
Massachusetts
Boston ReStore, Inc. collects donated building supplies and office furniture from homeowners and companies. Materials are made available to lower-income homeowners and non-profit organizations in Boston, Massachusetts.
EcoBuilding Bargains accepts donations of quality but unwanted home improvement materials and sells at low prices in a retail setting in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources! is based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Reuse Center accepts residential construction and demolition reusables, including over-runs. Materials are made available to low to moderate-income households at a reduced rate.
New Hampshire

New Jersey

Build It Green! is a New York City warehouse is a non-profit retail outlet for reusable, environmentally-friendly, and low-cost building materials.
Eastern Rensselaer County Community Warehouse (Hoosick Falls, New York) is located in Schaghticoke, New York. The organization accepts donations of reusable goods (home and office furnishings, appliances, housewares, building materials, and more) from individuals, businesses, and institutions. The materials are re-sold, at low cost, to those who need them.
Finger Lakes ReUse 
(Ithaca, New York) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping our communities benefit from reuse by reducing waste, relieving poverty, and teaching job skills. Finger Lakes ReUse operates a ReUse Center in Ithaca, New York open to the public seven days a week (accepting and selling quality used furniture, salvaged and surplus building materials, housewares, and home electronics,) provides a deconstruction service as a green alternative to demolition, and runs a computer reuse program.

Pennsylvania
Building Materials Exchange provides materials and furniture to low-income homeowners in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Construction Junction is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, its Pittsburgh's only non-profit retail store for used and surplus building materials.

Nonprofit Technology Resources (NTR) 
serves low-income people in Philadelphia, 
Pennsylvania by recycling used computers, providing hands-on work experience, and assisting community-based service organizations to use computers in their work. We are the oldest computer service organization in the area devoted exclusively to nonprofit organizations and the people they serve. The Computer Thrift Store accepts the donation of used computers, laptops, monitors, printers, and other computer accessories at its Center City location from 9 am till 3 pm Monday through Thursday. Call or email to request a pickup of 10 or more identical Pentium IV (or better) computers (or 5 Pentium IV laptops) in the Philadelphia area. NTR can pick-up your donation of 100 or more Pentium IV computers anywhere from New York City to Washington DC.
The Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse promotes resource conservation, creativity, and community engagement through material reuse. It operates a non-profit retail store for used and surplus art, craft, school, and office supplies, as well as business discards that are useful for creative projects. It also uses reclaimed materials for workshops and community art projects.

Rhode Island

Resource Recycling for R.I. Education (RRIE.org) 
is a non-profit organization that accepts clean non-toxic reusable excess inventory from the business community and offers them to educators and community organizations.
Vermont

ReSource 
There are two retail storefronts, one in Burlington and the other in Barre. Both ReSTORE shops take in and find new homes for gently used household goods, appliances, computers, electronics, furniture, and industrial surplus materials.

Vermont Buildings & General Services: Surplus Property is located in Montpelier, Vermont. The state sells surplus property, both from Vermont as well as Federal agencies. There are no restrictions on who can purchase state surplus property. This includes office furniture, computer equipment, vehicles, and hundreds of other items.
