Overview
DNREC's Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Branch assures, through
regulation and permitting mechanisms, that waste generated, transported,
treated, recycled, reused, or disposed of in Delaware is managed in an
environmentally safe manner. The Branch also encourages, through voluntary
means, waste reduction, reuse, and recycling activities.
- The Branch is responsible for:
- All Sanitary and Industrial landfill permitting, inspection, and
enforcement.
- All Infectious Waste, Transfer Station, Resource Recovery, and
Transporting permitting, inspection, and enforcement.
- All solid waste regulation/program development.
- Illegal dumpsite investigation, remediation, and closure.
- Waste Material Beneficial Use.
- PHC Soils Remedial Action.
- Recycling and Composting Facility approvals.
- Waste Tire management.
- Bottle bill.
- Treatment, storage, and disposal facility permitting; compliance
monitoring and enforcement; and closure plan/correction action approval
and oversight.
- Hazardous waste generator/transporter notification processing,
compliance monitoring and enforcement, hazardous waste manifest
tracking.
- Siting criteria, capacity assurance, regulations, and legislation.
