Guide to Increasing Recycling Supply

Background

Recycling supply and demand issues are primary components to recycling market development.  For many years, increasing the demand for recycled materials has taken precedence over supply issues.  The Northeast Recycling Council's (NERC) Board of Directors and Advisory Members recognized the need to refocus on supply side issues and created the Supply Side Committee.  The Committee's primary role is to identify and discuss strategies used by different stakeholders to increase the supply of materials and to share this information by creating the Guide to Increasing Recycling Supply

Introduction

The Guide to Increasing Recycling Supply is a compilation of case studies about real examples of regulatory and non-regulatory strategies used by state and local governments, private industry, and non-profit organizations to increase the quantity and quality of residential recyclable materialspaper, cardboard,  glass containers, plastic packaging, aluminum containers, and steel cans.

This resource is complementary to demand side policies previously developed by NERC, i.e., Glass Minimum Post-Consumer Recycled Content Model Legislation and Minimum Post-Consumer Recycled Content Requirements for  Plastic Products and Packaging Model Legislation
