With record-low prices for virgin plastic, it has become financially challenging for end-markets to use post-consumer resin (PCR). Consequently, public demand for recycled content is essential to support the industry. Public sector entities, educational institutions, state recycling organizations, and businesses can support the recycled plastic market through purchasing power. The Recycling Demand Champion program is a free incentive program to increase the purchasing of products with post-consumer recycled resin (PCR).
The goals of this program include:
- Stimulate & create domestic markets for recyclable plastics
- Drive a sustainable plastic recycling industry
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions through reduced purchasing and manufacturing of plastic products
- Reduce plastic pollution
ReCon tool and GHG Equivalencies calculator
This Document gives an overview of how to use the ReCon tool and GHG Equivalencies calculator. These tools will be useful for the Recycling Champion program in order to calculate the amount of GHG averted by purchasing recycled content. These tools can be used to calculate a wide variety of recycled materials including paper, plastics, and metals.
What This Program Provides:
- Free technical assistance, training, and support
- Directory of possible vendors and products
- Expert knowledge of the PCR market
- Certificate of participation and recognition from NERC
- Annual report of the impacts of your efforts
How to Participate:
- Become a Champion by committing to increased purchases of PCR/PCR Products within the next 12 months
- Advocate for increased support for the PCR Market
- Report all purchases made to NERC
- Promote your end-of-year report made by NERC
